2007 CHAPTER MEETINGS AND EVENTS

The membership meetings are held at the Blacksburg Community Center on the third Tuesday of each month except December, July and August. Be sure to make a special effort to attend and remember to bring a friend and your lunch. We begin eating our bag lunches at 11:30 a.m. (coffee and tea available) with the program following at noon.

PROGRAM: Mood Swing presents music from the 30s and 40s
Mood Swing is a local group of musicians: Karl Sanzenbach, Bob Thomas and Cathy Stell

SPEAKERS: Dr. Larry ALexander, Virginia Tech, and Dr. Ann Alexander, Radford University
TOPIC: The "Home Sweet Home" newsletter and Nutritional Supplements for Seniors

SPEAKER: Franklyn Moreno, President of the New River Valley Master Gardeners Association
TOPIC: "NRV Master Gardeners Helping our Community"

The AARP Chapter Meeting scheduled for April was cancelled because of the tragic events
that occurred on the Virginia Tech campus on Monday, April 16, 2007.

SPEAKERS: Virginia General Assembly Delegates Jim Shuler and Dave Nutter
TOPIC: A Report from the General Assembly given by each delegate.
Mini-Program: William Finley spoke briefly about the need for PATH program volunteers.

EVENT: AARP Chapter Annual Potluck Picnic
PLACE: Nellie's Cave Park, Blacksburg, Virginia
TIME: Noon to 3 PM, including a White Elephant Sale.

DATE: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2007
EVENT: Virginia General Assembly Legislative Forum
PLACE: Blacksburg Community Center starting at 9 AM
AARP Virginia Voter Express Van was in our area for several days.

SPEAKER: Charles Johnson, New River Valley native
TOPIC: "Black History and the New River Valley"
Mini-Program: Dianne Rhody-Scott, Montgomery County Department of Social Services

DATE: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2007
SPEAKER: Dr. Thurman Lockhart, Professor in the Department of Engineering at Virginia Tech
TOPIC: "Physiological Changes and the Occurrence of Accidents in Older Adults"

DATE: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2007
EVENT: Blacksburg AARP Chapter Annual Holiday Luncheon
MUSIC: The Blacksburg Community Band added to the holiday spirit.
