Reviving
and expanding the children's program at Historic Smithfield is a new and
exciting chapter in our community outreach effort. Children have
been an important part of Smithfield since William and Susanna Preston
moved to the plantation with seven children in 1774. Their family
grew to include twelve children. Eleven of the children grew up,
married and brought their own children to Smithfield. This continued
for several generations and other relatives and friends spent time here
as children.
The Smithfield Kids and Junior Interpreters Programs welcome children at least seven years of age who wish to learn about the rich history of Western Virginia and who are willing to commit time and energy to sharing this knowledge with visitors to Historic Smithfield. |
