What a great weekend! The VT men win the ACC Track & Field Championships, the VT basketball team beats #1 rank Duke with college game day in town. The Blacksburg H.S. girls indoor track & field team won their fourth straight state title with Blacksburg's George Carter and Hannah Brown winning the 1600 meters (4:17 and 4:55). Then Sunday came with beautiful skies and a huge turnout for the 2011 Blacksburg Classic.

The Blacksburg Striders 26th edition of the Blacksburg Classic had the highest turnout in history. The 487 finishers (223 finished the 10 miler and 264 completed the 5K) took advantage of 60 degree weather and low winds. To top it all off, the event was a great fundraiser for the high school cross country and track & field team.

I would like to take this moment to thank everyone involved.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the event happen (Blacksburg Track & Field team), the Town of Blacksburg for getting the "gravel cleaner" vehicles to go over the course, the Blacksburg and VT Police Departments, The New River Valley Bicycle Club for allowing us the use of their equipment, the many restaurants in Blacksburg for giving nice door prizes: The Cellar, Sals, Boudreaux's, Sharkeys, Rita's, The Lyric, Moe's, and The Chocolate Spike.

Most of all we want to thank you all for coming and making this event a great one. We had runners from all over including one soldier home for a few days from Afghanistan. We hope you enjoy it. Thanks again!
